About Audiovisual
The Media Commons supports the University of Toronto curriculum and currently holds some 15-thousand audiovisual titles. The reference collection of books, indexes and periodicals includes locating and evaluating tools, media catalogues, guides and indexes. A variety of in-library media playback facilities for individual and group use is available. The Media Commons is wheelchair accessible and provides closed captioned facilities. Our main Theatre is equipped for hearing-impaired.
Collection Information
The Media Commons audiovisual collection includes DVD's, videos, 16mm films and other formats which are available for classroom screening or individual study. Titles not included in the collection can sometimes be obtained from other sources. A small reference collection of catalogues, books, periodicals and media distributors catalogues is available for consultation. Lead time for retrieval from the Reference Collecton is required.
Suggestions for additions to the collection are welcome. Priority is given to titles needed for classroom screening and other course-related use. Purchase suggestions should be directed to joan.links@utoronto.ca
Borrowing
Holders of most valid University of Toronto Library cards may borrow materials from the collection. The loan period
is "two nights" with possibility of up to 3 renewals* if no other
reservation exists. Extended loan periods may be arranged if multiple classroom screenings are required.
All
audiovisual materials must be licensed for classroom use. The Media
Commons acquires performance rights for most programs for use at the
University of Toronto's three campuses. These rights do not extend to off-campus
locations. For further information, please call 416-978-6521 or email media.commons@utoronto.ca.
*The number of renewals is dependent upon privileges associated with your Library Card category.
Please note: UTS Student cards do NOT have borrowing privileges.
